  • 153. The Rocky Horror Picture Show Of Watches
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is out sick (but he is listening). David and Ripley are present and accounted for, and Ariel jumps right in with a discussion of some of his predictions for 2025. He thinks the theme song from The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the best background for this discussion because we're in somewhat of a time warp. His top five trends? Listen in to find out. Hint: There are five, and he goes through them one by one and asks the others what they think of his powers of prophecy. Ariel then turns attention to two fun year-end roundups, the 10 articles we published in 2024 that got the most eyeballs and our top 10 articles with the highest number of reader comments. Next up, there's a discussion of the Longines Ultra-Chron Carbon watch, and the guys go back and forth on the merits of this particular design. What about the TAG Heuer's return as the official Formula 1 timekeeper? David gives an overview of what this article covers, both historically and in the present. MB&F's new M.A.D. Edition watches are the next topic of conversation, along with the various ways you can get your hands on one. Talk gets racy with consideration of Breguet's Classique 7145 Lunar New Year 2025 (luxe House of Slytherin, says Ripley). There's a segway to convo about American watchmaking, and Ripley elaborates on Mike's thesis: There will be no full-scale return to American watchmaking. Instead of Hit, Miss, Maybe, the team ends the show by looking at the latest Favre Leuba.

  • 152. The Best, The Worst, And The Bang Average Of 2024
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is virtually flanked not only by Ripley, David, and Ariel, but he's also got three guests on board for this week: Kevin Roberts, Alon Ben Joseph, and Simon Ryan. They begin by doing a round-robin of "Where are you, and what are you wearing?" meaning "What watch are you wearing." This greases the wheels for Rick's Rules of Order, in which Rick discusses how the show will unfold vis-a-vis the four categories he's asked each guest to speak to on this NYE show: the best watch release of 2024; the best brand of 2024; the worst watch release of 2024; and the most "bang-average" watch of 2024 (which causes understandable confusion for the non-UK participants). Tune in to hear what each watch lover has to say at the tail end of this interesting year of watches. Bremont Terra Nova Dual Time Tourbillon Watch H. • 151. Minute Repeaters For Arsonists, A Seiko For Santa, And Our Favorite 2024 Watch Releases
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is once again lost in the Scottish countryside as Ariel, David, and Ripley hold down the holiday podcast fort. Things start off with a deep dive into Seiko's Incredibly Specialized Watch Exhibition 2, including watches for Santa, ninjas, and DJs. Then they get down to brass tacks with the ABTW team's favorite releases from 2024 and a discussion of how the team approaches the decision. Then it's on to a few new watches, including a lighter and a teeny tiny G-Shock for your finger. • Seiko's Incredibly Specialized Watch Exhibition 2|Seiko Design • Team aBlogtoWatch’s Picks: Our Favorite New Watch Releases of 2024 • Hands-On: Franck Muller x S.T. • 150. The Post-it Note Rolex, Milking The Blood Moon, And Wearing An A.I Watch
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Brother Rick is conspicuously absent, so it's Ariel running the show alongside Ripley and David, who all know that to take a podcast vacation now would be to deprive listeners of the comfort of a discussion of their watch hobby straight to their ears. The guys get right to it with a look the new Venezianico Arsenale. Ariel proposes that when glasses take over smartwatches, the wrist will become available again for useless things like mechanical timekeeping. They veer off associatively into the rabbit hole of augmented reality. Getting back to basics, Ripley posits that when simplicity is done right, it can be more impressive than a busy dial because your attention is focused only on a few elements. Next up is the Rolex Sky-Dweller 226938 18k yellow-gold watch, which Ariel likes quite a lot, even though the dial has never sold him on "pretty." Ripley says he'd take it over a Nautilus or a Royal Oak. David agrees that it's a powerful watch in its complications and execution, but it's not right for his wrist (too heavy). Then the team discusses David's most recent "Grinding Gears" article, in which he asks "How long should watch brands milk historic achievements?" Next up is a look at the new Bulova Lunar Pilot "Blood Moon" watch, which David thinks is too large even in its smallest form, but everyone loves the story of this watch. Listen in for more. Speaking of small, the Hamilton PSR74, a modern LED with a retro look. David isn't sure he would spend upwards of $800 on this watch, though he's happy it exists. Then, they discuss the watch that the Venezianico Arsenale wants to be: the Parmigiani Tonda PF Sport Chronograph in Milano Blue. They end with a look at a deep dive into Bulgari's new watch manufacture and the Hands-On: Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono 'Cycling Edition' And The Role Of Watches In Professional Cycling | aBlogtoWatch Maybe when Rick gets back, he'll bring Hit, Miss, Maybe with him.
